St. John Ambulance Certified,
Valid Until 2028
In Canada, recognized organizations for instructor certification include the Canadian Red Cross and the Lifesaving Society.
St. John Ambulance is equally respected and has national authority in first aid education.
Aleksandar Mezej has a St. John Ambulance first aid instructor credential, number INST-004351. The certification was awarded in December 2025 and remains valid through 2028.
Besides the certificate, Aleks has extensive experience gained as a volunteer firefighter.

What is BLS, and does Parkland First Aid deliver it?
BLS is Basic Life Support. The first aid program prepares healthcare providers with advanced CPR skills beyond standard first aid. Parkland First Aid does not currently deliver BLS training.
A BLS option will be added to the schedule once the instructor completes the required firefighter first aid course.

What is the difference between a basic course and standard first aid?
A basic first aid course runs for one full day. Standard first aid, also called the intermediate program, spans two days and covers a wider range of emergency scenarios.
Each leads to a valid St. John Ambulance certificate recognized by Manitoba employers. Recertification is required every three years to keep the credential current.

How much is the course fee, and what does recertification cost?
- Basic course: one full day, fee available on request.
- Intermediate course: two days, 160 CAD.
- Recertification: 130 CAD.
Payment is collected in person on the first day. No online payment is processed before a candidate meets the instructor.

Can a certified first aid instructor help with drowning prevention?
Drowning prevention is a specialty area linked to the Lifesaving Society and aquatic programs. A Lifesaving Society instructor development program prepares instructors to deliver water safety first aid courses.
Parkland First Aid teaches first aid courses for workplaces and communities. Lifeguards and waterfront supervisors can take the intermediate program to meet Manitoba’s legal rules.

Yes, certificates are awarded upon successful completion of the final evaluation.
It takes a few days because Aleks sends reports to St. John Ambulance and receives certificates, which he distributes via email to participants. A St. John Ambulance credential is recognized by Manitoba employers.
A first aid certificate validity lasts for three years from the issue date.
